Wow, those things piss me off too!
I may have to disagree on self check-out. True, there always seem to be problems with it. But the concept is good, and sometimes it does actually save me some time.
I like self check out but only when I am in a rush, the store is very crowded and I have say 1-3 items. For example, when we were doing our leaves we found we needed more bags and it was going to get dark very soon. so I rushed to acme and I need those bags like yesterday. thanks to the self check out and pulling up right in front of the store, I was in & out in less then 5 minutes. and we got all the leaves bagged.
